WOMBAT STAPLES & TAKEAWAY
The New Normal (for now)
To our loyal customers and friends – following the government’s lock down of non-essential services, Wombat Hill House will be looking a little different for a while.
We still want to be able to supply you with delicious sourdough loaves, baguettes, pastries, and other takeaways. Now, we’ll be adding to the offering so you can also pick up your local staples as well and grab an excellent coffee at the same time.
Wombat Hill House reopens as Wombat Staples & Takeaway.
Subsequent changed trading times will be Friday – Monday each week for as long as we can.
What can you shop for?
We’ve been growing beautiful pesticide-free vegetables, herbs, and flowers for Lake House our Two Chef’s Hat restaurant for almost 2 years. With the mandated closure of our restaurant – we have a surplus of nutrient-rich vegetables available to purchase at Wombat.
A selection of great slow-fermented (real) sourdough, pastries, and doughnuts from our bake house at Dairy Flat Farm will be freshly baked and delivered to Wombat each morning we are open. Hurry in for these (and your coffee to takeaway). A takeaway menu of Wombat favourites including our much-loved sourdough based pizzas, burgers, toasties, salads and more, will also be available.
There will also be pantry staples – quality flour, milk, eggs, cheese, olives and more from our trusted suppliers. Boxes of local mineral water and some essentials such as tissues and toilet paper (😂) will also be available. Limited items will also include our own Daylesford Pure hand sanitizer.
Please be mindful of the current social distancing rules.
Much as we love you, we’ll be waving at you from afar.
There is one entrance and one exit to Wombat Hill House, all items will be pre-packaged for hygiene purposes and ease of pick up. All non-essential furniture has been removed and sanitizing stations will be available to enable a safe shopping environment for you and our Wombat team. Please bring reusable shopping bags or boxes for all your shopping needs.
We’re hoping that the opportunity to grab some lung fulls of beautiful sweet country air and to take a walk through the magic gardens will make Wombat your one-stop shop for staples, great coffee, and delicious takeaway.
Meantime stay healthy and safe. We’ll get through this.

All day grazing in the enchanted gardens on Wombat Hill
Our cafe sits in the playfully renovated 1940s caretaker cottage, right in the heart of Daylesford’s Botanic Gardens, established in the 1890s on a volcanic hill with spectacular views. We serve delicious breakfast, brunch & lunch in the casual country style cafe, perhaps by the open fire, under the heated pergola or in the sunshine amongst the pretty kitchen garden.
Our garden within a garden. We don’t take bookings but you can choose from one of the many spots in the sunshine in the kitchen garden or undercover in the warm courtyard pergola.
Plenty of space inside at individual and shared tables, on the bar, by the fire, or in the garden. Many items are also suitable for takeaway. There’s also picnic baskets and high tea!
Pick up great sourdough bread & pastries delivered fresh from Dairy Flat each morning.
A small range of beautiful mementos is available to purchase in-store and online. Toy wombats are very popular as are the Grow. Cook. Eat books which raise money for the Daylesford Primary School Kitchen Garden Program.
DON'T MISS OUR BEAUTIFUL HIGH TEA!
